There is a squirrel sat in the shade of the apple tree.
Unconcerned about the closeness of my home,
untroubled by the birds in the tree above him,
he nibbles at seeds fallen from the feeders above .
Higher in the tree a Magpie pecks at fat balls hanging from a branch.
Bluetits queue impatiently for their turn at the seed feeders.
Sparrows sit on the edge of the birdbath and drink their fill.
Later will come the Thrush and possibly others.
I sit in my chair and watch the visitors to my garden.
My cat sleeps unconcerned by the bird song that flows through the air.
My peaceful oasis is surrounded by industry.
My unkempt garden is my kingdom shared.
